KISS your way to Great Customer Engagement
When you are trying to write a blog or a piece of content to engage with your customers, it might be a good idea to follow this age old adage – K.I.S.S.
KISS – Keep it simple Stupid! Keep it short (too) stupid!
Keeping it short and simple is a great way to communicate with anyone – most of all your customers. In this fast-paced life, no one has the time to sit down and read long treatises on why you think you have the answer to all their problems!
So here is why you need to keep things simple and short.
Get his attention quickly
We live in an age of information overload. There is very little time to get the attention of your customer – you have the first 10 seconds of a video. You have the shortest of subject lines in your emails. You have the headline of a blog post. The first few lines of an article. If you decide to save the best for last and write what would really interest him in the closing lines of a 5000 word blog, it just might not even reach his eyes!
Customers use their smart phones and other mobile devices to consume content these days. They don’t have the time or the inclination to consume large chunks of text. So simple and short articles will work best – stuff that doesn’t call for endless scrolling …
Get to the point faster
When you decide to churn out short and simple posts, you will be forced to cut out meaningless chatter that only fills up space, and get to the point quicker. Which is great for someone who consumes your content – someone with not much time, someone who consumes content while on the go, someone who uses a smartphone in all likelihood.
Easier to consume content
It is no rocket science that shorter and simpler pieces are easy to consume. And when you make that content memorable, you have a winner! A consumer does not have to settle down for a marathon session in order to get what you are trying to communicate. Short and simple pieces that get straight to the point can be quickly consumed – even while on the go!
Work better on Social Media
Shorter and simpler content works better on Social Media – they are easy to consume and easy to share with other like-minded people.
Customer engagement is something that we all strive for – and when you offer your customers content that is short and simple, it is easy to consume, easy to understand and assimilate and easy to share. So the next time you use content to engage with your audience, keep it short and simple.:
